What “Lab-Grown” Means

Laboratory-grown gemstones are not a single manufacturing process. Different gemstone families can be created using different techniques. The important point for shoppers is transparent disclosure: the stone was grown in a laboratory and should be described that way at the point of sale.

A lab-grown diamond is diamond; lab-grown sapphire is sapphire; lab-grown ruby is ruby. The material is produced above ground, while colour, inclusions, cut and finish can still vary from stone to stone.
